How to Apply

Identify the Mineral and Area

Determine what mineral you want to mine and where. Check with the Mining Commissioner's office that the area is available and not already claimed.

Peg Your Claim (for Mining Claims)

For mining claims, you must physically peg the area according to the Mines and Minerals Act. A qualified prospector or mining agent can help with this.

Register at the Mining Commissioner's Office

Submit your application at the Provincial Mining Director's office or the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development in Harare.

Pay the Registration Fees

Pay the applicable fees for your licence type.

Environmental Impact Assessment

For larger operations, you will need an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) approved by the Environmental Management Agency (EMA).

Licence Issued

Once all approvals are obtained and fees paid, your mining licence is issued.

  • Proof of financial capacity — especially for EPOs and mining leases
  • Environmental Impact Assessment (for operations above a certain scale)
