What VID checks, fees and how to prepare your vehicle
A fitness certificate (also called a roadworthiness certificate) confirms that your vehicle meets minimum safety standards for use on Zimbabwe's roads. It is issued by the Vehicle Inspection Department (VID) after your vehicle passes a fitness test.
You need a valid fitness certificate for:
Check all lights, brakes, tyres, wipers and seat belts before going to VID. Fix any obvious issues to avoid failing.
Take your vehicle to the nearest VID depot. Bring your vehicle registration book and national ID.
Pay the fitness test fee at the depot.
A VID inspector will examine your vehicle. The test takes approximately 30-60 minutes.
If you pass, you receive a fitness certificate (a sticker for the windscreen and a paper certificate). If you fail, you'll be told what needs to be fixed and must return for a re-test.
