How to book, what to study, fees and the pass mark
The learners licence (provisional licence) is the first step to getting a full drivers licence in Zimbabwe. You must pass a written test covering road signs, rules of the road and vehicle controls.
Go to the Vehicle Inspection Department (VID) depot in your area. Major depots are in Harare (Eastlea), Bulawayo, Mutare, Gweru and other cities.
Bring your national ID (original and copy) and two passport-size photographs.
Pay the test fee (approximately US$15-20).
You'll be given a date and time for your test. Tests are usually held on specific days of the week.
The official study material is the Zimbabwe Highway Code. You should know:
| Section | Pass Mark |
|---|---|
| Road Signs | 100% (you must get every sign correct) |
| Overall (all sections combined) | 83% |
| Service | Fee |
|---|---|
| Learners licence test | ~US$15-20 |
| Learners licence (after passing) | ~US$10-15 |
| Re-test (if you fail) | ~US$15-20 |
